No. 10232 DC-3 Rail Inspection Car

 Union Pacific Railroad

Like many railroads, the Union Pacific maintained its own fleet of inspection cars, including rail detector cars, which used a magnetic induction method to check track for rail flaws. They checked main lines three or four times a year and every branch at least once a year. Because these cars often stayed out for long stretches at a time, UP DC-3 was remodeled in 1957 to include living quarters for its four-man crew.

No. 10232 represents an accurate scale model by MTH of UP’s DC-3 rail inspection car in “O” gauge, as it would have been seen in the 1960s on UP tracks.
