The Union Depot Railroad was established at the north end of the original 1887 station. With the exception of the north end, the station was demolished in 1942. The remaining portion has been restored to its original beauty. The purpose of this museum is to preserve and share with others Mendota area's rich railroad history, which includes the CB&Q, the Illinois Central, and the Milwaukee Road. A layout of Mendota in the 1930's, interactive rail layout, and many railroading artifacts are located in the Combine Car and the Southern Pacific "Golden Trencher" Dining Car. There is also the Chicago, Burlington & Quincy Steam Engine #4978, and CB&Q Waycar #14451.
